Location
Cheristow is a small hamlet of two farms and four houses surrounded by fields and across the valley from Hartland (a mile-or-so away). We share a bumpy access lane which peters out into a green lane leading to the Abbey and a footpath which leads to the village of Hartland through Cheristow Woods.
We send detailed directions when guests book (or see below). Sat Navs, given our postcode: EX39 6DA, lead to Downe Cottages about half a mile away so look out for the lane marked Cheristow. Our neighbours at the Cheristow Lavender Farm have a small wind turbine visible from quite a distance, which is a good landmark for the turning; we are 200 metres or so down the lane, on the right.
Roads on the Hartland Peninsula are generally quiet, many are single track, all have a tendency to pot-holes… do drive slowly and carefully. We very much look forward to seeing you.
Directions
Most Sat Navs will take you close, but not to, Cheristow Farm Cottages.
So, if using Sat Nav, do follow these directions for the end of your journey. Googmaps has Cheristow Farm Cottages EX39 6DA correctly positioned.
Approaching from Bideford on A39 (direction Bude) go straight ahead at the Clovelly Cross roundabout and take the next turning right onto the B3248 signed Hartland. Continue along this road for about 1.4 miles, turning right at the Lighthouse Cross signposted to Hartland Point and Lighthouse. Continue along this road for about 2.2 miles to Youltree Cross; go straight over the crossroads towards Hartland Quay and take the second turning, on the left after about 0.8 miles signposted 'Cheristow' (a no through road) – look our for a small wind turbine on the left before the turning, also signed ‘Lavender B&B and Campsite' our neighbours. We are 200m down the lane, on the right. (If you come to Downe Cottages on your right you have overshot our lane so turn around and take the first turning on the right).
Approaching from Bude on A39 (direction Bideford) take B3248 for Hartland (approx 6 miles north of Kilkhampton). Drive through Hartland following direction Stoke and Hartland Quay - after approx 0.75 mile turn right over a small bridge (past the entrance to Hartland Abbey) and follow single track road up until you reach a sharp right-hand bend, continue past Downe Cottages on your left (with whom we share a post code and Sat Nav likes to take you here...). 500m further along take the small right hand turn signed Cheristow (a no through road) also signed 'Lavender B&B and Campsite' our neighbours – look out for a small wind turbine on the right just after the turning. We are 200m down the lane, on the right.
